A
new initiative by St. Clair County's Emergency Management.
The St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security/ Emergency Management
has instituted an innovated solution for improving communications
between government agencies, volunteer organizations, businesses and
the citizens of St. Clair County.
"Select Alert" is an innovated solution for improving
communications between government agencies, volunteer organizations,
businesses and the citizens of St. Clair County.
Select
Alert is a notification system that sends coordinated
information to multiple devices simultaneously.
Currently,
the system can deliver information to telephones, cell
phones, e-mails, pagers, fax machines and TTY
for the hearing impaired. You choose what and how the information is
delivered. Once a citizen signs up for this service, it is his
responsibility to keep
his information current and up to date.
To sign up
for Select Alert requires a valid e-mail address. However,
if you do not have a computer, you can go to any Library Branch where
computers are available.
If you have
any questions, contact Marianne Hill at the office of
Emergency Management at (810)989-6965.

A
Clay Township Emergency Plan for Harsens Island Ice Jams.
The plan,
proposed
after the Ice Jam of
February, 2007 as presented at
the Association's Board Meeting by the Police Chief, unfortunately does
not address non-emergency passenger movement between Harsens Island and
the Mainland for normal activities such as students and
every day working citizens getting to and from their appointments.
Since the latest incident, when Bobby Bryson again
attempted to relieve the crossing difficultiesduring this year's ice jam, the Association invited township
trustees, our State Representative and the DNR agent to our April Board
Meeting. Trustees DeBoyer and Krueger, State Representative Pavlov and
DNR agent addresed the board and answered questions.
The trustees seemed to be unfamiliar with the Chief's Emergency Plan and agreed to a meeting between
the interested parties within the next 2 months to arrive at an action plan to deal with the next jam.
Agent Pondo agreed that the original $850 for a licence during emergency use of the DNR seemed
excessive and a compromise was under consideration. However, the daily or annual parking sticker issue
had not been addressed.
We will keep on top of the issue and keep you informed of new developments.
